USS Princeton (CG 59) amongst remaining active Aegis Cruisers in the Pacific Fleet

Hey Fellow Princeton Plankowners & MineStrike Crew Shipmates

A number of you have been asking and so our former XO, Captain Jim Kear, USN (Ret) has let me know that he heard form his SurfPac Contact that there now remains on five (5) remaining active Ticonderoga Cruisers in the Pacific Fleet.

This image from the SurfPac website shows where they are: 1 is in Yokosuka, Japan, 1 is in Hawaii, and 3 in San Diego to include USS Princeton (CG 59).

Two of the five cruisers, USS Chosin (CG 65) and USS Cape St George (CG 71), and one other home-ported in Mayport, Florida, USS Gettysburg (CG 64) have had their life extended as part of recent modernization, and now are planned to serve into roughly 2029.

USS Shiloh (CG 67), the last remaining Aegis Cruiser in Pearl Harbor, was identified for retirement in 2025 indicates and decommissioning is expected 2026.

Alas, our beloved USS Princeton (CG 59) and USS Robert Smalls (CG 62) have been only funded through the end of FY’26 which means that it could be slated for decommissioning as early as September of this year. With the world on war footing right now, that date may still, as yet, be extended.

If you know anyone who isn’t monitoring our USS Princeton (CG-59) Plank Owners & Mine Strike Crew Facebook page, please encourage them to stay turned here at this website for further updates.

We’ll let you know as soon as we hear anything official and our plans to get together one last time to witness our beloved ship’s decommissioning!
